Roblox can be compared to Netflix or YouTube – but for games! Here kids and young people can log in and access thousands of games created by other users and professional game developers.

What is Roblox?
- A platform with millions of games
- Many types of games such as racing games, shooters, football, restaurant games, obstacle courses, and horror games
- Free, but with purchasing options
- Social opportunities with chat (public and private), groups, and friends lists
Age limit: 12+ years from Apple App Store, 7 years from PEGI
Marked with: Mild violence, fear, and buying options.
The game has cartoon graphics.

What can children and young people learn from Roblox?
- One can create one’s own games and practice game design
- Collaboration and communication
- Some games simulate the use of real-life skills, such as spending money in a restaurant, driving trains
- Reaction, strategy, and problems solving in certain games
Smart settings:
- Adults can restrict chat or turn it off
- Own filter removes inappropriate games
- Two-step verification – so that others can’t steal your kids’ accounts
Discussion questions with the children:
- Which games do you like best at Roblox and why those?
- Who do you like to play with?
- Is there something about Roblox that you think is stupid or something that you don’t like that much?
Glossary:
- Robux – you pay real money for Robux to buy things in the game
- Avatar – what the character looks like
- Obby – a type of game designed as obstacle courses or mazes
- Tycoon – a type of game where you are going to create a business that makes money
- Account Restrictions – parental controls that close the chat and remove inappropriate games
- Server – the place where you play with others at Roblox. Can be private or public
- Roblox Premium – subscription that gives you Robux every month and things for the character
- Trade – to trade items in the game
